Company coming?  No problem, when you have our prepared fruit turnovers on hand...they make a simply delicious base for tasty fruit strudels served warm from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 of a 12.5-ounce package Pepperidge Farm® Raspberry Turnovers (2 turnovers)

  • 1/2 of a 12.5-ounce package Pepperidge Farm® Apple Turnovers (2 turnovers)

  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • 2 tsp. sugar

  • 1/4 cup almond, coarsely chopped

  • 1/4 cup pecans or walnuts, coarsely chopped

  • Vanilla ice cream

Directions

  1. Thaw the turnovers at room temperature for 30 minutes or until they can be easily opened, so that each pastry lies flat without breaking the middle seam. Heat the oven to 475°F. Lightly grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Stir the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.

  2. Place the opened raspberry turnovers onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread the raspberry filling to within 1/2-inch of each pastry edge. Top with an opened apple turnover, apple side up. Spread the apple filling to within 1/2-inch of each pastry edge. Sprinkle evenly with the nuts and cinnamon sugar mixture.

  3. Place the baking sheet in the oven and immediately reduce the oven temperature to 400°F. Bake for 25 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown. Cut each pastry in half, making 4 pieces in all. Serve the pastries warm with the ice cream, if desired.

  4. Recipe Note: Parchment paper keeps the pastry from sticking to the baking sheet and also makes for easier cleanup. If you don't have parchment paper, you can spray the baking sheet with cooking spray instead. However, cooking spray may cause the bottoms of the pastries to brown more quickly, so begin checking for doneness 5 minutes early.

Tip

The kind of pan you use can affect baking times. A nonstick or dark glazed baking sheet may bake faster, so adjust your time and check pastry while baking.

If your Puff Pastry becomes soft and sticky while working with it, chill it in the fridge for a few minutes. Place in the refrigerator between rollings, too.

Always flip and place the cut side of the Puff Pastry down on the baking sheet.

You can thaw Puff Pastry in the fridge. Separate and place each sheet on a plate, cover with plastic wrap and defrost in the refrigerator for about 4 hours.
